Assorted pencils, 2012

Sir Aliod, Avatar of Mysrai, one half of the Sacred Lovers, and current General of the Gaudiguch Templars (at least until he gets fed up with it), wipes a bit of blood from his face, one eye swollen shut. He has a sword for every occasion!

Commission work for a friend that I was terrified I’d screw up at the last minute. I’m especially pleased with the border, given that I only settled on the pattern as I was measuring out the dimensions. His plate design was described to be as “piecemeal,” so I decided to opt for the result of a violent collision between a junkyard and Games Workshop.

The only thing I regret about this design is not working a frying pan into his armor.

Kedne, a palette-swapped version of Denke, practices a kata form.

A little something I threw together as a spur-of-the-moment surprise for my husband. The gradients were a last-minute thing that worked out better than I was expecting! Scribbly inks and slapdash colors but I still like the results. The more I practice with color the less crap I’ll be with it…

The horrible mutant wolfmonster your horrible mutant wolfmonster could smell like. Golden Soap!

Quick, messy little sketch that became some much-needed coloring practice. Hooray for more colors on this Tumblr and more things with backgrounds in general! Not caring too much about line quality or exact musculature can be liberating, though coloring around all those little fliffs and floofs was less than delightful.

This is also the first time I’ve posted something of Denke Qatoc in full color, and the first time he’s been shown below the neck in original (non-human) form!

Pencils of assorted hardness, 2012

A headshot of the Lady Zada, decorated Knight Templar, Avatar of the God-and-Goddess Mysrai, and acting member of the Cult of the Red Right Hand (and, obviously, a variety of spotted cat-person). Her suit of armor and demigoddess aura are not pictured for the sake of simplicity.

If this doesn’t make any sense to you that’s okay; just know she’s from the same game as all those lizardy folks. Big thanks to her player for commissioning this!

While my scanner was an absolute anus for this I am still quite pleased with how it turned out, as I almost never work with pure pencils on finished pieces. My light table was invaluable here, as was remembering the trick of “put a bit of paper under your hand and you won’t smear everything hither and yon.”

Tikki is so sorry. He never meant for this to happen!

Some tablet/color practice, which I desperately need, based on something that occurred on a roleplaying Minecraft server (yes, they exist) that my husband frequents.  Surprisingly happy with how the fire turned out!  I think Impressionism works for me when doing color stuff.

Mechanical pencil & Photoshop, 2012.

Gift for a friend.

Here in the magical land of 4:30 AM, we don’t have TIME to put effort into things! Also I’m sure we all see the terrible, terrible pun.

Broken wooden pencil, 2012

Some prepwork for a commission I’m working on, establishing how bestial a character’s head should be.  Stupid scanner, I am going to have to MASH on the graphite next time or nothing’s going to show.

Wooden pencil, 2012

A picture of a character of mine’s protege. Her player isn’t sure if she’s more human or bestial, so I whipped up versions of both!

Wooden pencil, 2012

More sketches of these two, partially practicing heavier pencilwork so my scanner actually picks it up.

The pencil sketch from earlier, now colored! This ended up being a great deal more elaborate than I was planning on, but it adds some much-needed variation to my primarily monochrome gallery. I’m a big fan of how the white highlights turned out!
